"So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish

AUGUST 2008
Another amazing month has passed here at Firebrick Christian Baptist Church. So much has been done this month and I am so proud of my church. The first thing I would like to talk about is on the first day of general council in Wheelersburg we were given a certificate for our average attendance increase. In the 2006 – 2007 year we had an average attendance of 64 on Sunday morning and in the 2007 – 2008 year our Sunday morning attendance had increased to 67. That increase of three people shows me that Firebrick is a growing church and I hope to see even more growth in the upcoming year.
During the past month we had Brother Derrick Hunt preach for us the second Sunday morning of last month. Because of our Sunday School picnic we didn’t get to hear Brother Owen last month but we are looking forward to hearing him the last Sunday night of this month. We will be having Brother Henry Burkett come and preach for us in our August Missionary Service. Our Nursing Home Service has been going really well. I believe that the people at Liberty Nursing Home really enjoy our monthly visits and we enjoy visiting them.
Not only has our Sunday morning attendance grow as I have already mentioned but I believe our Sunday School is doing really well. Our Sunday School lessons in the quarterly that we are currently in have taken us back to the book of Exodus and the journey that the Israelites faced as they made their way to the Promised Land. I love Sunday School and believe it is a very important thing in church. While we are on the subject of Sunday School, during the past month we had our annual Sunday School picnic. This year we went to Camden Park and I believe that everyone had a great time while there.
Our youth has been doing very well. Our Youth Leader Sister Chessica Sparks as well as everyone else that helps with the youth have been doing wonders with them. The youth is important to a church’s growth and I am glad that we have such wonderful people working with them. Sister Jackie Johnson and Sister Fonda Lewis have been doing great with getting the youth to sing in our church’s youth choir. And while we are talking about the youth of the church, I should mention that they have been very busy as of late. At the Sunday School Rally our church had the theme of Sky Full of Angels Watching Over Me. We had a lot of fun with it and I think it worked out really well. We also had our Vacation Bible School which went off without a hitch. I would like to thank everyone that was involved with pulling it off this year. All around I think the youth are doing really well and I look for them to excel in the upcoming Youth Rallies this year.
In the past month in my personal ministry I got the opportunity to preach twice at a community church in Jackson. We had a good time of fellowship there and the Lord blessed. In the upcoming month I currently have no scheduled preaching engagements outside of in Firebrick’s normal church services.
As everyone knows we cancelled two church services in July so that the church could go over to the Camp Meeting. It was good to see so many people out to listen to the songs of God and the word of God. On the two nights that we cancelled service Brother Delmar Rogers brought the message. The other two who preached the other nights of the Camp Meeting were Brother Calvin Ray Evans and Brother Brian Baer. I look forward to next year’s Camp Meeting.
During general council this year we voted for our district’s superintendent and after the votes were counted the results were that our very own Brother Owen Sensabaugh is the new Western District Superintendent. Congratulations Brother Owen.
There was also a candle lighting memorial service at general council for all of the churches who have lost members due to death during the past year. Firebrick lost three members during the past year: Sister Pauline Hammond, Sister Doris Lewis, and Brother Russell Lewis. They are gone but not forgotten. At the conclusion of the candle lighting everyone sung the song Never Grow Old and that is true. The Brothers and Sisters that we have in Christ when they leave this world they go to a land where they will never grow old.
Until next month keep us in your prayers and pray that an old time revival will sweep the land and come to Firebrick.
